Rochelle Park, NJ, April 6, 2016 – Grammy award winner berna has a lot to be thankful for. The R&B and gospel musician has written songs for legends like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, is a recurring guest on BET gospel shows and has received countless awards from American Music, Soul Train Music, ASCAP, GMA Dove and more. Lately though, he is most thankful for the care he has received at Alaris Health at the Chateau.
Mr. Belle was in a long-term acute facility following his second stroke before being admitted to Alaris last December. As a result of the stroke, he was fully dependent on a breathing ventilator, unable to walk or maintain any of his daily activities and had severe communication and motor skills deficits. That was then, this is now.
With a dedicated staff and holistic physical, occupational and speech therapy treatment program, Mr. Belle has made huge strides in his recovery. In less than six months, he no longer requires a breathing ventilator, walks 80 feet at a time with a walker and assistance and does assisted upper body and lower body exercises with limited assistance. When he first arrived at the Center, he was unable to speak; now he is able to communicate by mouthing words.
Mr. Belle attributes his recovery to the high-quality care he received at Alaris Health at the Chateau, which he said is far better than other facilities he’s experienced. He specifically chose Alaris for its aggressive physical therapy program and knew it would push him to recover. What he did not anticipate were the friendships he has made along the way. “There are staff members here who I plan to keep in touch with and I’m grateful for the friendships that I’ve made,” Mr. Belle said. “I would recommend the facility to anyone who has gone through what I’ve gone through.”
Mr. Belle is finishing up his treatment program this week and is expected to return home to Georgia on Thursday. The Alaris community wishes him well, and to quote his Hi-Five classic song “I Like the Way”, “You keep me looking forward to another day.”
