The patients at Alaris Health at St. Mary’s have many favorites among the meals prepared by Jean Gachette, lead cook. From baked chicken, roast beef and fried fish to cake and banana cream pie, Mr. Gachette is determined to make everybody happy at his table.
“I run my kitchen like I would run my own restaurant. I take requests for special dishes that patients have enjoyed over the course of their lives and try to find the recipes wherever I can. Everything is possible for me to make, and I do, if it will bring them happiness,” he says.
This dedication to patients has made Mr. Gachette well regarded by the staff. In honor of National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16, Alaris Health at St. Mary’s has chosen to highlight Mr. Gachette as an exemplary employee. The American Health Care Association established National Nursing Home Week in 1967 as a week-long observance celebrating the positive impact nursing homes can have on the lives of people. Each Alaris Member Health Center is participating in this celebration and has chosen an employee to highlight.

The theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches in.” The theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone “pitches in” for optimal outcomes.
