Jersey City, NJ, November 13, 2017 – For many families, Christmas is a time to be joyful and celebrate, but the gift-giving season can also be a stressful time financially. Many of Alaris Health Member Center families have experienced hardship and struggled to afford gifts for their kids to make the holidays brighter.

As such, Alaris Health is excited to announce its second annual participation with the nationwide United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Each Alaris Health Member Center serves as a drop-off location for both Alaris Health team members and community members to donate new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to local children to bring them and their families much needed joy.

All of the toys donated this year will be tallied at the end of the drive. Last year we collected over 450 toys, this year our goal is 1000! Raquel Pecillo-Mulligan, Regional Director of Provider Relations, said about the toy drive, “Alaris Health is always committed to making a difference. Donate this season to Toys for Tots to make a difference in the life of a child.  Every donation counts and together we can make a difference in the lives of many children”.

As a thank you, each person who makes a donation has the chance to win a prize three times a week for the duration of the drive. Simply take a selfie with the Alaris banner at the drop-off location and post it to social media, including #T4TAlaris.

The last day to drop off your new, unwrapped gift donations to any Alaris Health Member Center is Tuesday, December 12. For a list of drop-off locations, visit http://alarishealth.com/find-a-location/. Alternatively, you can support the national Toys for Tots Program by visiting the website at www.toysfortots.org.

Member Centers of Alaris Health Participate in the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk

IMG_4453Jersey City, NJ, October 24, 2017 – Member Centers of Alaris Health participated in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this past Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Newport Plaza in Jersey City.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events celebrate survivors and raise awareness and money to help the American Cancer Society save lives. The money is used to fund innovative research, provide free information and support programs to patients and caregivers, and to help reduce breast cancer risks or find it early when it’s most treatable.

making strides logoBreast cancer is a cause that is personal to so many people at Alaris Health. That’s why we’re joining the nation’s largest network of breast cancer events – the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. We’ll raise money and awareness and together we can continue to save lives.

The American Cancer Society is an important resource for women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer. We owe it to those women to support the organization that does more than any other for them by funding innovative research and providing free information and services.

Lisa Marie Rosado, Recreation Director at Alaris Health at Castle Hill and the Alaris Health Team Captain for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk says “My decision to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk was deeply inspired by a personal family struggle with breast cancer.  My sister in law who was diagnosed with breast cancer, also faced a significant language barrier as English is not her first language.  Therefore, I assumed the role of both her interpreter/translator and support system through this difficult time from the very beginning.  During this challenging time, I witnessed first-hand the devastating and life altering effects of living with breast cancer.”

She continued “I was deeply impacted when I learned that there were others, even fellow staff members  at Alaris Health, who survived breast cancer. Hearing their stories instilled hope and inspiration for my sister in law to keep fighting. This is precisely the reason why I made the decision to advance my professional and personal growth by becoming Team Captain for Alaris Health at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk”.

IMG_4427Member Centers of Alaris Health are proud to have participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and is thrilled about the difference that our associates and their families are making to save lives from breast cancer.  Our team totaled approximately 50 members.

Joseph Filipak, Regional Director of Case Management at Alaris Health added “We couldn’t be more proud of our team! We have so many employees and loved ones with survivor stories, it was important for us to show our support in numbers.  Our teams participation has grown each year, we can’t wait to show our support again in 2018”.

Alaris Health Member Centers Partner with RWJBarnabas Health to Lead Care Quality Initiatives

Alaris and RWJBarnabas
Jersey City, NJ, October 18, 2017 – In an effort to continuously enhance post acute services, nine Alaris Health Member Centers were chosen to partner with the 11 hospitals of RWJBarnabas Health, an integrated, comprehensive health system that serves New Jersey communities.

Alaris Health and RWJBarnabas Health share a common commitment to providing exceptional quality care in the local New Jersey communities they serve. The primary objective of the partnership is to track the shared patients between RWJBarnabas and Alaris Health Member Centers and share their data to facilitate communication and ensure a continuum of care. The partnership also aims to expand the services that both providers offer, in turn reducing readmission rates.

“This partnership solidifies the overall success of Alaris Member Health Centers as we continue to be the premier provider in the local communities that we serve,” said Alaris Health Member Centers Regional Vice President of Operations Regina Figueroa. “We’re eager to assist each other in reaching our goals.”

She continued, “The partnership is similar to what other hospital systems have done in that we all want the best for our residents by collaborating and sharing information to provide quality care.”

RWJBarnabas Health’s5 star cms logo 2 decision to partner with Alaris Health Member Centers was in large part due to Alaris Health’s exceptionally high average of 4.8 out of 5 stars, per the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Five-Star Quality Rating System, a method used to assess skilled nursing facilities’ quality of care services. Of any other skilled nursing facility provider selected to partner with RWJBarnabas, Alaris Health has the most, including Alaris Health at Cedar Grove, Essex, The Fountains – South Campus, Hamilton Park, HarborView, Jersey City, Riverton, West Orange and Care Connection Rahway.

Alaris Health at Essex Administrator Jeanne Leus said of the collaboration, “We are both committed to supporting the transition and coordination between acute and post-care setting with the goal of sharing best practices to improve quality of care and life while reducing costs.”

Alaris Health at The Atrium Celebrates 15 Years of Excellence

15Anniversary(1)Jersey City, NJ, October 3, 2017 – Alaris Health at The Atrium reached a significant milestone in July; July 2, 2017 marked its 15-year anniversary. Throughout the years, The Atrium has provided the highest quality of care to hundreds of residents and their families, all of whom have become a part of a close-knit family.

Since The Atrium opened its doors to the community on July 2, 2002, it has grown tremendously and is the only assisted living facility in Hudson County. It has adapted to the ever-changing health care landscape in many ways, such as implementing new and improved health care programming with the expansion of Bridges, a memory care unit with sensory-based activities that are tailored to residents’ individual needs. The move from a social model to a medical model has enabled The Atrium to meet residents’ changing needs and provide higher levels of care, hospice services, on-site physicians’ visits and physical, occupational and speech therapy programs.

Alaris Health at The Atrium Administrator Marianne Alfano said, “We continue to serve and cherish every person who moves into the community. We are delighted to be celebrating 15 years of assisted living service and will continue to provide quality care with passion and dedication for all who call Alaris Health at The Atrium home.”

Alaris Health at The Atrium resident MaryAnn Taglieri said, “Having lived at The Atrium since July 23, 2002, I feel truly blessed to call it my home, and the staff my family. They are the most caring, compassionate people I know.”

Activity assistant Richard Altomare added, “Every morning I walk through the door, I look forward to being greeted by cheery smiles and ‘Good morning’. We aim to provide our residents as positive and warm of a welcome as possible when they transition to The Atrium. We start off as caregivers and become their family. I’m extremely grateful to work here and wouldn’t trade my experiences for anything.”

The Atrium has adapted to change in the health care industry and will continue to provide the highest quality of care possible for the next 15 years and beyond,” said Marianne Alfano.

To commemorate the momentous anniversary, Alaris Health at The Atrium celebrated its 15th anniversary during National Assisted Living Week, which was September 10th through September 16th. On Friday, September 14th, The Atrium hosted a special 15th-Year Celebration Extravaganza with elegant dining, live entertainment, giveaways and a champagne toast. The event was open to the public.

Alaris Health at Boulevard East Proudly Announces Laura Crotty as Director of Nursing

(Laura Crotty, DON)

(Laura Crotty, DON)

Jersey City, NJ, September 7, 2017 – Alaris Health is pleased to announce that Laura Crotty has been named Director of Nursing (DON) of Alaris Health at Boulevard East, where she will oversee a team of approximately 50 nurses and staff.

Laura joined Alaris Health in 2008 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked as a floor nurse. It quickly became apparent to everyone who worked and interacted with her that she would rapidly rise to meet her ambitions of being a Registered Nurse (RN). She worked diligently, going to school in the evening to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) while working as a nurse during the day.

Not only did she receive her RN license and BSN, she did so with Honors. Upon graduating, she accepted a position as Unit Manager and again persevered, returning to school to continue her education and receive her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). She was interested in learning the Minimum Data Set (MDS), a federally mandated tool that is used to provide comprehensive assessments of residents in Medicaid or Medicare certified nursing homes.

(Pictured left to right: Jane Almario, RN, Unit Manager; Laura Crotty, DON; Evelyn Lasso, RN; and Lina Restrepo, Business Office Manager)

For the past two years, Laura has assisted the director of nursing and conducted MDS’s. When the DON position became available, there was one person whom everyone knew would smoothly transition into the important role: Laura.

And so it is with great pleasure that Alaris Health at Boulevard East begins a new chapter with Laura leading the nursing team. Laura said, “My goal is to ensure that all residents receive the quality care they deserve and the staff are appreciated and feel supported.”
