Sponsored by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, the Residents’ Voice Challenge recognizes residents who demonstrate a talent for writing, be it poetry, short stories or other, and selects a handful of residents each year to publish his or her writings in a keepsake book.
The 2015 winner was Alaris Health at Cherry Hill’s very own John Barnshaw, who has been a long-term resident since spring of 2012. John is an 87-years-young retired optician who enjoys writing poetry and prose. A facility volunteer noticed his impressive writing and submitted him for the writing challenge. When asked how he felt about the news, John exclaimed, “I was thrilled, it was very unexpected!”
John’s entry will be published in The Consumer Voice’s 40th anniversary 40 Words of Wisdom, a keepsake book that features words of wisdom and thoughts on care from long-term residents nationwide. Copies can be ordered from http://theconsumervoice.org/ncv_store.
“Wisdom should be like a savings account – make plenty of deposits and watch it grow.”
“As grandmom used to say, ‘Pearls cast upon the swine.’ Wisdom can be of no value when related to a
closed mind. To be a master at wisdom, you need a life of events and age.” – John Barnshaw
