Patients who are recovering from a variety of conditions, from strokes to injuries, need help to relearn how to complete daily living activities. Becky Lattarulo, an Occupational Therapist with Alaris Health at West Orange, helps them to regain a sense of empowerment through simulated exercise that teaches everything from gaining coordination and endurance to navigating a kitchen.
“Patients come to us in a tough stage of life, but by the time they leave they are back to being strong and themselves again. Overall I try to help patients meet whatever their goals may be and to help them get back to their prior level of functioning. I find them to be very inspiring,” says Ms. Lattarulo.
Many of Ms. Lattarulo’s patients return after discharge to show how well they are doing because, “they know she will be so proud of them,” said the Fanwood resident.
This dedication to the recovery of patients has made Ms. Lattarulo well regarded by her staff. In honor of National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16, Alaris Health at West Orange has chosen to highlight Ms. Lattarulo as an exemplary employee. The American Health Care Association established National Nursing Home Week in 1967 as a week-long observance celebrating the positive impact nursing homes can have on the lives of people. Each Alaris Member Health Center is participating in this celebration and has chosen an employee to highlight.
“Becky is energetic and optimistic but also helps the patients to meet realistic therapy goals. She assists all departments when needed and has developed a strong bond with her residents. We are proud to highlight Becky this month for her dedication to helping our patient recover their strength and their lives,” says Sindy Vaillencourt, Administrator of Alaris Health at West Orange.
The theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches in.” The theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone “pitches in” for optimal outcomes.
“Alaris Health celebrates our employees for improving and enhancing the lives of our patients,” says Avery Eisenreich, President of Alaris Health.
