The beautiful courtyard at Alaris Health at The Fountains North has become the ideal place for outdoor recreation for patients that is organized by Laverne Ploom, program director of Bridgeway, a therapeutic program for adults with mental illness. From cook outs and carnivals to sporting events, Ms. Ploom makes sure that patients have the healing benefits of the outdoors to help them improve during their stay.
“It is like working with family. We try to make the patients feel that they are home here. We eat with them, have parties, give them opportunities for independence through vocational projects. Above all we try to keep them feeling active and connected,” says Ms. Ploom, a Ridgefield Park resident.
Ms. Ploom helps the patients with a weekly letter writing campaign to loved ones. These connections help patients work toward healing after hospitalization has delivered them a medical setback.
This dedication to patients has made Ms. Ploom well regarded by the staff. In honor of National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16, Alaris Health at The Fountains North has chosen to highlight Ms. Ploom as an exemplary employee. The American Health Care Association established National Nursing Home Week in 1967 as a week-long observance celebrating the positive impact nursing homes can have on the lives of people. Each Alaris Member Health Center is participating in this celebration and has chosen an employee to highlight.
“Laverne develops and provides innovative programs for our residents that bridge caring and innovation on an ongoing basis. Her commitment to bringing a home feeling to the facility, along with high quality care, makes her outstanding at her job,” says Paul Cohen, Administrator, Alaris Health at The Fountains North.
The theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches in.” The theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone “pitches in” for optimal outcomes.
“Alaris Health celebrates our employees for improving and enhancing the lives of our patients,” says Avery Eisenreich, President of Alaris Health.
