Prior to starting work as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Alaris Health at Riverton in 2004, Union, N.J., resident Patrick Robello had not been interested in the medical field, even though two of his six siblings were employed in the nursing and pharmacy professions. But after feeling a connection to patients and seeing the impact he could have on their lives, Mr. Robello decided that the nursing profession was his calling.
“Working in this position made me realize that being a nurse is what I live for,” says Mr. Robello, who is now a CMI (Medicaid) Minimum Data Set (MDS) nurse, employed as part of a federally mandated process for clinical assessment of all residents in Medicare and Medicaid nursing homes.
In honor of National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16, Alaris Health at Riverton has chosen to highlight Mr. Robello as an exemplary employee. The American Health Care Association established National Nursing Home Week in 1967 as a week-long observance celebrating the positive impact nursing homes can have on the lives of people. Each Alaris Member Health Center is participating in this celebration and has chosen an employee to highlight.
“We selected Patrick because he is in an outstanding employee who started as a CNA in 2004 and now is our CMI MDS Nurse. Patrick will also be pursuing his RN, and continue to be a dedicated caregiver for our patients. It is employees like Patrick who show boundless commitment to our patients and residents and make our facility what it is” says Michael DelSordo, Administrator for Alaris Health at Riverton.
Born in the Philippines, Mr. Robello arrived in the U.S. in 1994. He is the youngest of his siblings, which includes five sisters and one brother. After starting his career as a CNA, he went back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and plans to continue his medical education in nursing.
The theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches in.” The theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone “pitches in” for optimal outcomes.
“Alaris Health celebrates our employees for improving and enhancing the lives of our patients,” says Avery Eisenreich, President of Alaris Health.
