For Carnina Aquino, a physical therapist at Alaris Health at Castle Hill, working with patients to help them recover their health has brought great satisfaction. She recalls one young patient with whom she developed a “grandmotherly” friendship. The young woman still calls to wish her well on birthdays and holidays and stops by with donuts for the whole team.
“I try to build a good rapport with patients and find out how they are feeling. Then we create certain goals based on their needs. It is a team effort to help the patient recover his or her strength and endurance. When they are able to make a speedy recovery and return to their lives, it is very fulfilling for us,” says Ms. Aquino, a resident of North Bergen.
This dedication to patients has made Ms. Aquino well regarded by the staff. In honor of National Nursing Home Week, May 12-16, Alaris Health at Castle Hill has chosen to highlight Ms. Aquino as an exemplary employee. The American Health Care Association established National Nursing Home Week in 1967 as a week-long observance celebrating the positive impact nursing homes can have on the lives of people. Each Alaris Member Health Center is participating in this celebration and has chosen an employee to highlight.
“Carnina has demonstrated excellent skills as well as a caring and helpful nature. She is loved and respected by staff, residents, and family members. Nina goes out of her way to help all residents and staff and is extremely effective in her care and therapy,” says Francine Sokolowski, Administrator for Castle Hill.
The theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches in.” The theme recognizes residents and patients in long term and post-acute care settings, the dedicated staff who care for them, and the value of care planning where everyone “pitches in” for optimal outcomes.
“Alaris Health celebrates our employees for improving and enhancing the lives of our patients,” says Avery Eisenreich, President of Alaris Health.
