Seven joyful, curious kids arrived bright and early with their moms and dads, excited for a chance to see where their parents work and what they do every day. Their day started off with breakfast and a meet and greet with residents. They then toured the Center, asking questions along the way, afterwards enjoying a game of Simon Says and jewelry making before lunch.
The afternoon proved just as action-packed as the morning. The kids participated in an educational program and learned about how recreational activities are essential parts of residents’ daily living and provide a sense of community belonging, while also enhancing well-being and self-esteem. The children also learned about the importance of residents’ privacy and rights and how to treat each resident with respect and dignity.
Of course, the day would not have been complete without fun activities with Alaris Health at Castle Hill’s beloved residents. They played a ball toss game, had a relay race, did arts and crafts projects and were treated to a pretzel and ice cream social. When asked what they thought about the day, one kid said, “I made paintings and appreciate the fun times I had today!” The kids were each presented with a certificate of appreciation at the end of the day.
Bring Your Kid to Work Day was an excellent opportunity for kids and parents to engage with and learn more about each other in
a new setting. One employee reflected, “My daughter enjoyed
her day with her peers and recreation staff. She made friends with them, and it was a great experience to spend my time with my daughter while at work.”
The kids left a little wiser and made the residents’ day a little brighter with their visit. With the success of the day, Alaris Health at Castle Hill plans on celebrating Bring Your Kid to Work Day again next year with even more children.
